Section 3 of Public Act 08-121 expands exemption eligibility under 12-81(53). As of July 1, 2008 each active member of the armed forces is entitled to the full exemption of one motor vehicle regardless of where the vehicle is located. Active Duty members must file an application with the Assessor’s Office no later than December 31 st following the tax due date of such assessment year. NOTICE TO DISABLED VETERAN'S

Due to a recent system change, the USVA could not initially mail VA Form 20-5455 to disabled veterans. On October 8, 2008 Governor M. Jodi Rell announced that the USVA WILL BE mailing disability verification letters required for local property tax relief to all Connecticut veterans. 

Disabled Veterans who want to receive a letter sooner from the VA Hartford Regional Office can still request those letters by calling the state's Veterans Information hotline at (866) 928-8387 or by visiting a nearby veterans office.
